CHESTERFIELD, Mo. (KSDK) - On Thursday night the Parkway North High School band performed for the first time since a spring break trip that could have turned deadly.

When a bus driver passed out behind the wheel early on the morning of March 14, band director Mark Linn jumped into action to avoid a crash.

At Thursday's concert, Linn and Color Guard leader Laura Glenn were honored for their quick thinking.

"I feel like Mr. Linn takes care of us so well that he deserves to be taken care of too," said Parkway North Sophomore Leah Ryan.

Linn and Glenn were presented with a bouquet of flowers and a special gift by Parkway's School Board President Beth Feldman, Superintendent Dr. Keith Marty, North High Principal Dr. Jenny Marquart and North High students and their parents.

Afterward, Linn told the crowd he's no hero. He added he did what anyone else would have done.

But Parkway North senior Jocelyn Treadway says this time Linn went above and beyond to keep his students safe.

"Definitely after that bus accident I can say that Mr. Linn's my hero inside and outside the classroom," she said.
