The Maupins have 12 reasons to celebrate this Thanksgiving. They just added three more children to their family.
"We made the decision to adopt before we got married. it was sorta one of the deal breakers," says Heather Maupin, mom to almost 12 kids.
"I was pretty smitten by Heather and when she said would you adopt, I said yeah, I'd adopt," laughed Micah Maupin, dad.
The Maupins have 5 biological children, with the last one scheduled to arrive in January and six adopted children. Adele, Luke and Malachi officially became part of the family November 17th.
"They've brought so much excitement to our family. Just the different gifts that they've brought," Heather says.
And adding more to their family has always been a family decision.
"Before each adoption, we've asked our kiddos what would you like to do? Here are some children looking for a forever family. Every time, it's been an overwhelming enthusiastic yes, let's see if we can get them," Heather smiles.
"The reason we did this is because we really want people to see that
you can adopt. It's not this thing that other do and you sort of look
from the outside and say wow they're such great people look they've
adopted. It's something that really people are capable of," Micah says.
"I would say it's difficult and it's worth it. It's a step by step day
by day thing that you just want to ask God for the strength to do but
by having community and people around you to help you, it's really
doable," Heather says.
"You never really know if you can do something until you try. And you get in and you start to see there's such a need. Most people are more capable than they give themselves credit for. It's not as difficult as you might think .. it's challenging, but not impossible," Micah comments.
