Craft Distilling is sweeping the nation and it's a trend St. Louis is no stranger to.
"A distillery is basically very similar to a winery, brewery. We make alcohol," explained Steve Neukomm, Square One Brewery and Distillery owner.
Neukomm opened Square One Brewery 7 years ago. He expanded 2 years after, introducing Missouri to its first craft distillery. Square One Brewery and Distillery produces 13 spirits from scratch, using their homemade liquor as the base for several craft cocktails.
"As long as you have really good ingredients. You start with the fresh juices, really good spirit, things like that and then the way that you make it making sure that you take care of the whiskey in a sense that it doesn't get too deluded just making sure that the cocktail comes out how it's suppose to be with the proper measurement, proper temperature, "said Tim Kosuge, Square One Brewery and Distillery, owner.
You can experience craft cocktails and liquor at the first St. Louis Craft Spirits and Cocktail Week. The event kicks off Saturday with a classic cocktail party in Lafayette Square Park. Various bars throughout the city will have specials going on to celebrate craft drinks. For a full list of events visit www.facebook.com/StLouisClassicCocktailParty
