St. Louis, MO (KSDK) - A St. Louis Circuit Court jury found a 24-year-old north St. Louis County man accused of shooting a police officer guilty on Friday.

Arthur Lee Jones of Bridgeton was found guilty of assault on a law enforcement officer and armed criminal action in the crime which occurred in November 2010.

Authorities say Jones was in the area of the 4600 block of Margaretta just after midnight when a patrol officer noticed suspicious activity.

The officer stopped his police car and shined a spotlight on Jones, who then turned towards the officer and began shooting.

One of the bullets fired by Jones went through the door of the squad car and struck the policeman in the buttocks according to police reports.

Jones then ran from the shooting scene to an apartment building in the 4000 block of Cora Avenue where SWAT/Hostage Response officers sealed the area and took Jones into custody. The gun used in the officer's shooting was also located in the building when Jones was apprehended.

Jones faces up to life in prison on the conviction.
