St. Louis, MO (KSDK) - Ballpark Village development has been given a more concrete date for construction to begin.

Bill DeWitt III, president of the St. Louis Cardinals, said Tuesday that ground breaking at the vacant lot north of Busch Stadium is expected in mid-November, with the first phase of construction at Ballpark Village completed by Opening Day 2014.

DeWitt's announcement comes on the heels of the Missouri Development Finance Board's approval of the project.

The Cardinals and their development partner, Cordish Companies, said the $100 million first phase of Ballpark Village includes 100,000-square feet of retail and entertainment space along Clark Street, as well as the parking and site infrastructure necessary to support the future phases of the seven block, $700 million development.

The highlight of the first phase is a special venue called Cardinal Nation, a 30,000-square foot facility that will house a two-story restaurant, a Cardinals Hall of Fame and Museum, and a 300-plus seat deck with views into Busch Stadium. A second building will house a 20,000-square foot two-story Anheuser-Busch venue with a rooftop party deck, also offering views into the stadium. Both buildings will be joined by a retractable glass canopy.

The first phase of building is expected to create more than 750 construction jobs and more than 430 permanent jobs.
