ST. LOUIS COUNTY (KSDK) - A popular south St. Louis County breakfast joint has served its last short stack.
Gingham's closed Sunday after 23 years in business. The restaurant's owner had been leasing the building, but the building's owner is tearing it down to make way for a Sleep Number Mattress store and a Starbucks.
Loyal customers and former employees have been stopping over the past couple weeks to say goodbye and thank you.
"You like to think you made their time here especially when you thought they weren't so effective they would learn something from you because we always took this as more than a part time job. Hey you're gonna take a paycheck, you're 16, you may hate me, you may hate us, but someday you're gonna have to work for a living so you might as well learn it here," said owner Jack Paiesche.
There will be an auction on Wednesday. The building will be cleared out by Saturday.
