St. Louis (KSDK) - Before long, one of downtown St. Louis' tallest skyscrapers may sit empty.
Currently, the AT&T building on Chestnut Street is the home to approximately 2,000 employees. But by 2015, the company plans to move all its employees to other buildings in St. Louis and St. Louis County.
Members of the Communication Workers of America Local 6300 learned of the change in an email from AT&T's corporate real estate office. Union president Mike Mehringer tells NewsChannel 5 no layoffs were announced with the move.
An AT&T spokeswoman said the company is working on a multi-year plan to transfer employees into other area facilities. The company is also in the process of adding more than 180 new jobs to the area.
No new companies have announced a move to the 44-story building currently, and AT&T has a lease on the property through 2017.
A spokesman for the Partnership for Downtown St. Louis said his group will work with city leaders to help fill the building.
