St. Louis (KSDK) -- The MDA telethon has undergone some additional changes this year, but the mission will be the same: to raise money to stop the deadly disease, muscular dystrophy, and to make life easier for kids battling it.

The national MDA office has organized a star-studded three hour primetime special on Sunday night, instead of the telethon.

"MDA Show of Strength" will air on NewsChannel 5 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. on September 2.

The show will include Tim McGraw, Carrie Underwood, Luke Bryan, Paula Abdul and OneRepublic. It will include performances from Nashville, Hollywood and New York, as well as celebrity appearances by Khloe Kardashian Odom, Nancy O'Dell and Alison Sweeney.

In 2011, the event raised nearly $61 million in pledges & contributions for both service and research programs of the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

You can donate to the MDA at any time.  You can fill out a form online.  You can also make a $10 donation to the MDA by texting MDA to 20222. You can call 1-800-FIGHT-MD during the "MDA Show of Strength" primetime special on September 2.

Donations will be a variety of ways, from sending a child to a week at MDA summer camp to providing flu shots. A breakdown of what your contributions pay for is available on KSDK.COM.

The Muscular Dystrophy Association is a national voluntary health agency working to defeat neuromuscular diseases through programs of worldwide research, comprehensive services, and far-reaching professional and public health education.  More information about the MDA, is available by clicking here.
