St. Louis County (KSDK) - For the first time ever, St. Louis County police are hosting a citizen police academy at an area mosque.

Police teamed up with the Islamic Foundation for the eight week course at the Daar-ul-Islam Mosque in Manchester.

Classes are taught by law officers and the course is designed specifically for members of mosques. Participants will learn what steps they can take to avoid becoming crime victims.

They'll also get a better understanding of how the police department works as well as how police do their jobs.
