Man died while being subdued by St. Louis Police

St. Louis, MO (KSDK) -- Police are investigating the death of a robbery suspect while in custody.

Officials say at about midnight in the 3400 block of Kingshighway Avenue officers observed a man who matched the description of a robbery suspect.

As the officers approached the suspect fled on foot. Once the officers caught up to the subject they attempted to subdue him by deploying a department taser. The officers took the suspect into police custody after they gained control.

Once taken into custody the suspect was found to be unresponsive and was transported to a local hospital where he was then pronounced dead.

The cause of death at this time is unknown and police have not yet positively identified the suspect.

The investigation is ongoing.
