ST. LOUIS (KSDK) - We're celebrating an anniversary today.

On February 15, 1764, the City of St. Louis was established by Pierre Laclede and Auguste Chouteau.

The city had humble beginnings as a fur trading post 249 years ago, and later known by settlers as the "Gateway to the west," which is now symbolized by the Gateway Arch.

Homage to the city's founders includes Laclede's Landing on the riverfront and Chouteau Avenue just south of downtown.
