ST. CLAIR COUNTY, Ill. (KSDK) - A man was airlifted to a local hospital Monday night after a one car accident in Monroe County, Illinois.

Police say 21 year old Thomas Falk of Waterloo was involved in an accident on the ramp from northbound Route 3 to southbound Interstate 255 around 8:45 p.m. Police say the car went out of control and struck a guardrail.

The man got out of the vehicle and ran in an attempt to leave the scene.   After running approximately 200 feet, the man jumped over a concrete wall, landing on railroad tracks 40-50 feet below.

He was airlifted to an area hospital and was listed in critical condition at a St. Louis facility.

Witnesses told investigators the man began running and jumped the wall after being told police were en-route to the scene.

No one else was injured.
