TROY, Mo. (KSDK) - A Troy man is celebrating a Father's Day surprise after his emotional appeal to an apparent thief on Facebook.

Chad Smith discovered Saturday that the Smith and Wesson pistol that his late father left him was stolen.

Smith, like his father before him, has worked as a pastor and currently runs a ministry for troubled kids.

On occasion, Smith says he and his wife take troubled young men into their home, and he suspects one of them may have stolen the hand gun.

Smith says in his video post he tried to practice what he preaches to the young men he works with -- forgiveness.

The video spread through friends and strangers alike,  across the country.  And on Sunday, Father's Day, Smith says the gun turned up on his front porch.
