Montgomery City, MO (KSDK) - A rural Warrenton man will spend eleven years in prison for his guilty plea connected to the death of his girlfriend in 2012.

22 year old Matthew Menke pleaded guilty in Montgomery County court to second degree murder and driving while intoxicated charges.  The case was moved from Warren County on a change of venue.

Menke was originally accused of manslaughter in the case, however the charge was upgraded to murder earlier this year.

Prosecutors say Menke was involved in an argument with his girlfriend on August 17, 2012 while she was driving him to his home.

The victim, 21 year old Amanda Digirolamo, then drove Menke and his friends to Warrenton where police say Menke took the car keys from the woman and tried to drive off in her car.

Digirolamo tried to hang onto the hood of the moving car in an attempt to stop Menke from leaving.  The victim lost her grip and fell from the car, with Meke driving over her.

Authorities say Menke was intoxicated at the time of the incident.  He was ordered to serve a six month stretch in the county jail on the DWI charge.
