Alton, IL (KSDK) - A 19-year-old man was arrested and charged for allegedly taking grocery store items without paying for them and getting into a confrontation with a police officer in the store parking lot, the Alton Police Department said Friday.
According to the police report, the incident occurred at a Shop 'N Save in the 1700 block of Homer Adams Parkway on Monday, December 26 at 9:17 p.m.
Upon arrival, police were notified that the suspect, identified as Darrion Taylor, walked through the self checkout lane without paying for 10 items totaling more than $44. As Taylor made his way to the parking lot, he was confronted by a Grafton police officer who was coming to visit his son working at the store.
The police officer and his son, along with a store clerk, managed to detain Taylor after a scuffle.
Authorities identified the stolen items as:
(2) packages of Pork Picnic Roast
(2) packages of bacon
(2) packages of Oreo cookies
(1) box of Peanut Butter Puffs Cereal
(1) package of meat
(1) package of pork shanks
(1) Bar-S Jumbo Franks
Police said Taylor had been given previous notice from Shop 'N Save staff that he was no longer allowed on the property. A criminal history check revealed four prior larceny convictions.
Taylor remains jailed on $20,000 bond.
