MEXICO, Mo. (AP) - A northeast Missouri man has been found guilty of killing his fiancée days before their wedding.
A jury on Wednesday found 42-year-old Calvin Duane Pettey of Hannibal guilty of first-degree murder in the killing of Sandra Fugate. Sentencing will be Aug. 27 and life in prison without parole is the only option.
Rebecca Kirk testified that she and Pettey were lovers and plotted to kill Fugate to stop the planned wedding of Pettey and Fugate. They were scheduled to be married on April 17, 2010. Fugate was killed two days before the wedding date at her home in Hannibal. Kirk said she could not go through with murder plans but did help dispose of evidence.
Marion County prosecutor Tom Redington has not said if Kirk will be charged.
