ROSCOE, Ill. (AP) - Workers at a Winnebago County recycling plant discovered the body of a baby boy while they were separating plastic bottles from trash.
Winnebago County Deputy Chief of Detectives Dominic Iasparro says the naked body, with its umbilical cord attached, was lying on a conveyor belt when it was discovered early Friday by workers, who immediately halted work.
Coroner Sue Fiduccia said the baby, which she named "Baby Noah," appears to have been full term based on his size and likely died within hours of his birth. An autopsy has been scheduled for Saturday.
Iasparro says the Total Waste Recycling plant in Roscoe receives large amounts of garbage from Winnebago and Boone counties. He says a criminal investigation is under way, but no arrest has been made.
