St. Louis, MO (KSDK) -- The Campbell House in downtown St. Louis was hit by vandals last night, an employee of the museum says.

Police say they responded to a call for a "burglar in the building" at the museum in the 1500 block of Locust Street around 11 p.m. Monday.

The female employee who made the call to police said the door to the business was open, and she discovered a cash box on the floor when she went inside.

Police say they are still investigating the incident.

There is no word on what, if anything, was taken from the museum.

The museum is a historic property that preserves the circa 1880's Campbell's house along with original furniture, fixtures, paintings, objects and more.

KSDK will have more information if it becomes available.
