St. Louis, MO (KSDK) - A south St. Louis man charged along with two other people last summer after leaving three small children in a sweltering van while the adults went into a fast food restaurant has pleaded guilty in court.
21 year old Justin Wright was given a suspended jail sentence and placed on supervised probation after admitting to three counts of child endangerment and misdemeanor possession of marijuana.
Wright was arrested in July 2011 along with 31 year old Jessica Blackburn and 58 year old Mark Shelton, at the Fazoli's location in the 6400 block of Chippewa.
Witnesses called police after noticing the three youngsters unattended in the van with the engine off, no air conditioning, and just one window slightly open.
Police say the adults left the children in the van while they went inside and placed to-go orders. The trio than sat inside the business and consumed breadsticks and cold soft drinks while waiting for their orders.
The temperature at the time was in the upper nineties and the heat index was in excess of 110.
Both Blackburn and Shelton had pleaded guilty earlier this year and received similar punishment for their roles in the crime.
