North St. Louis (KSDK) - St. Louis Police say a 26 year old man died of injuries suffered after he was shot and when the car he was in crashed in north St. Louis.
Police have identified the dead man as Darryl Haywood of south St. Louis.
Police say the accident at 19th and Grand was preceded by shots being fired at the victim and three other men in a vehicle that was on eastbound I-70 exiting Grand around 2:10 a.m. Saturday morning.
Authorities say the victims got off the highway after the ambush and were headed south on Grand when they crashed while trying to elude the black Pontiac Grand Am carrying the gunman.
Investigators say Haywood was shot in the torso. Three other men in the targeted car were also injured. A 27 year old man was shot in the wrist, a 22 year old man was shot in the leg, and a 25 year old man was injured with broken glass and abrasions to his head and legs.
No names have been released. The three surviving victims are all hospitalized in stable condition.
