St. Louis, MO (KSDK) - Two people are in police custody following a pursuit that started near Brooklyn, Illinois around 3:00 Wednesday morning and ended a short time later with a crash north of downtown St. Louis.

Police initiated the chase after a traffic violation on the east side.  The driver of the car chose not to stop and fled southbound on Illinois Route 3 towards East St. Louis and eventually the Poplar Street Bridge.

St. Louis Police assisted in the pursuit once the vehicle crossed into Missouri and began speeding westbound on Interstate 70.  The driver lost control approaching the Madison Street exit and crashed.

The two people inside the wrecked car then tried to outrun police on foot, but were both apprehended within minutes of running from the crash scene.

No names released and no indication of anyone being injured.
