St. Louis (KSDK) - A 29-year-old St. Louis man has been sentenced to prison time on drug and weapons charges.
Quantraill Earl Smith was sentenced to 144 months in prison after pleading guilty in July to one felony count each of distribution of heroin, possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime, and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Court documents state three Florissant detectives were conducting a narcotics distribution investigation on December 26, 2011 at the Motel 6 on Dunn Road.
Smith and two other men were distributing heroin when one detective approached them and identified himself. The detective told the men about the investigation and saw a gun in the waistband of Smith's pants.
When the detective put Smith under arrest, Smith put his hand right hand on the gun.
Smith then repeatedly hit the detective in the face and shoulder with his elbows and tried to pull the gun out of his pants.
After the detective removed Smith's hand from the gun, Smith tried to take the detective's gun from its holster. The detective then subdued Smith.
