Clayton, MO (KSDK) - A south county man pleads not guilty to charges connected to the drug overdose death of his wife last June.

Anthony Smalley, 31 of Lemay, made the plea at his arraignment in St. Louis County Court Tuesday, and will return to court next month for a trial setting on a charge of first degree involuntary manslaughter.

Smalley was arrested and charged with the crime in August after police discovered the lifeless body of 26 year old Charley Smalley on the side of the road in the 200 block of Wachtel near South Broadway earlier in the summer.

Prosecutors charged Anthony Smalley after receiving reports from the Medical Examiner's Office stating the cause of the woman's death was a heroin overdose.

Detectives later determined Smalley was responsible for injecting the drug into his wife prior to her death.
