St. Louis (KSDK) - The Humane Society of Missouri is offering a $2,500 reward for information leading to the conviction of an animal abuse suspect.

Humane Society spokesperson Katie Zeidman says St. Louis police called them Wednesday morning after responding to the scene of an injured puppy that had been tied to the back of a truck and dragged down Interstate 55.

Officers said the driver of the truck was very upset and said he did not know the puppy or why it was tied to the back of his truck. He said another driver signaled to him something was wrong and when he pulled over he found the puppy.

The Humane Society of Missouri is offering the reward for anyone with information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the suspect. Anyone with information should call 314-647-4400.

The puppy is described as a 5 ½-month old brown male pit bull. He was in shock and suffered traumatic injuries including exposed tissue and bones.

Veterinarians at the Humane Society of Missouri Maryland Heights are caring for the puppy and closely monitoring him and his condition. Doctors do not yet know if he will survive his injuries.
