St. Louis (KSDK) - A 31-year-old woman has been taken into custody in relation to a theft reported in Jefferson County, Missouri.

NewsChannel 5 first reported the story November 15.

The LaRue family found the nanny on Craigslist and had only worked for them for two weeks when they say emptied a change jar, piggy bank, and stole a gun.

The family only had a first name and a cell phone number.

Captain Ralph Brown with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department says the woman was taken into custody in the 5000 block of Rosa in south St. Louis.

Brown says they tracked her down through social media, and credit NewsChannel 5's report for the ability to develop crucial evidence.

The weapon that was taken from the LaRue's home was recovered at a pawn shop in south St. Louis.

Brown says the suspect denies taking the money.

The will not be released unless charges are filed.
