North St. Louis man shot and robbed as suspect held hammer to his head

ST. LOUIS, MO (KSDK) -- Early Saturday morning a 43-year-old man was shot and then robbed as a suspect held a hammer to his head.

St. Louis police say Lamont Wilkes was opening his front door to his home on the 4400 block of San Francisco when he heard two gun shots and felt a sharp pain in his neck.  Then he felt another sharp pain in his back.

Wilkes fell to thr ground and one of the suspects held a hammer to his head and took $100 from the pocket of his pants.

Police believe they are looking for two suspects in this case.  Both suspects fled the scene on foot.  One of the suspects is around 6'0 and was wearing dark colored clothing. The other suspect was wearing a mask and is believed to be around 5-6. 

Wilkes was taken to a local hospital and is in stable condition.
