Walmart shoplifter assaults store manager
ST. PETERS, Mo. (KSDK) - A shoplifted stole over $1,500 worth of electronics from Walmart and assaulted a manager when confronted in the store parking lot, the St. Peters Police Department said.
According to Officer Melissa Doss, a police spokeswoman, the incident occurred around 3:30 a.m. on Friday, January 11 at the Walmart in the 1600 block of Jungerman Road. The suspect walked in the store, went to the electronics aisle, and put stereo equipment in his cart. The suspect left the store with the merchandise in his cart, without making any attempt to pay for it.
A store manager saw the suspect in the parking lot and found his behavior suspicious, so he asked the man to see a receipt. The suspect ignored the manager and attempted to load the stereo equipment into his car. The manager attempted to detain the suspect, but the two men began wrestling.
Both men fell to the ground and the suspect got away from the manager and left his coat behind, Doss said. The suspect fled the scene in his car, but returned a short time later to retrieve his coat. Some of the stolen merchandise was recovered in the parking lot.
The store manager was not seriously injured in the incident.
Police described the suspect as a Caucasian man in his mid-20s, standing 5'8" to 5'10" and weighing 140 to 150 pounds, wearing tan boots and a black coat. He was driving a 1990-2000 mid-sized sedan, black in color, with tape on the driver's side window.
Anyone with information on the suspect's identity or whereabouts is asked to call the St. Peters Police Department at 636-278-2222.
