ST. LOUIS (KSDK) - Police are investigating another attack in the Central West End.
Authorities say a 23-year-old woman was walking along Maryland Avenue around 8 p.m. Monday when she was approached from behind by a man who put his arm around her neck, pulling her toward the ground.
The woman told police the man said, "Give me all you got," but she told him she didn't have anything.
Police say the woman said she started to scream, but the man put his hand over her mouth and started going through the pockets in her pants and jacket.
The man ran away without taking anything.
Jim Whyte with the Central West End Neighborhood Security Initiative says supplemental officers were nearby and responded quickly to the scene. Other police officers were dispatched and began to search the area for the suspect.
This is the latest incident in a string of violent incidents in the area. Last week a woman walking on Maryland Avenue was punched four times in an unprovoked attacked.
One week before that incident, two men in their 70s were attacked on Newstead.
Whyte says the suspects look for opportunities to attack, even if they are brief. He advises people to remain vigilant.
He also says supplemental patrols have been stepped up in the evening hours in the Central West End, and officers have a good description of the suspects.
The latest incident may have been caught on surveillance cameras, but police still need anyone who may have seen something to come forward.
Anyone who was in the area during any of the attacks and may have seen something is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 866-371-TIPS or the 9th District police precinct.
