Maplewood, Mo. (KSDK) - An East St. Louis man faces charges after allegedly stealing a vehicle from a Maplewood business as the rightful owner jumped in the bed of the truck to stop him.
Maplewood Police Detective Sgt. Matt Nighbor said St. Louis County prosecutors charged Demarco McCaster, 28, with robbery and armed criminal action.
McCaster is accused of stealing the truck from the parking lot at the Maplewood Commons shopping center on March 7. The victim saw it happening and hopped into the bed of the truck.
The truck owner smashed the rear windshield and attempted to get the thief to pull over. The suspect eventually pulled onto the shoulder, got into a fight with the truck owner, then drove off again.
The truck owner was treated for minor injuries.
