BRIGHTON, Colo. (KUSA) - Becky Trujillo - the woman whose grandson died in 2012 from a severe injury after a pattern of abuse - was found guilty of criminally negligent child abuse resulting in serious bodily injury and not guilty of first-degree murder in court Friday afternoon.
The original charge was child abuse causing death, but the count was reduced to criminally negligent child abuse result in serious bodily injury.
Lana Roberts, Trujillo's roommate at the time of 4-year-old Gabriel Trujillo's death, also pleaded not guilty to child abuse causing death and is awaiting trial.
Police records show that caseworkers investigated reports of abuse of Gabriel twice and received four additional reports that something appeared wrong. At least one of those reports was not assigned to a caseworker for investigation.
