ST. LOUIS COUNTY (KSDK) - The crime tape outside the upscale house on Country Life Acres was the last time officers came to the home. They'd been here over and over again, over the last several years.
Court documents say Mary Ann Mullenix stabbed her husband and washed the blood off the knife on Wednesday night. Officers found Ivan Mullenix dead when they got there.
"It's a difficult situation. It was a long term marriage. It's a tragedy no matter what for everybody involved," Mullinex's lawyer, Scott Rosenblum, said.
Rosenblum said his client isn't guilty of second-degree murer, armed criminal action and tampering with physical evidence. He believes the evidence will clear his client.
Ivan Mullinex had four children with Mary Mullinex. Rosenblum wouldn't say if Mary supported her husband in his businesses. He was one of the most successful real estate developers in St. Louis. He built homes and hotels. His three sons from his first marriage bought him out. They also sued him fro violating the the terms of the buyout but eventually, the sons settled the lawsuit. A source close to the Mullinexes said, Ivan didn't' have much contact with his sons from the first marriage in recent years.
Mullinex retired from real estate but a property search shows he owns a multi-million dollar home on the ocean near West Palm Beach, Florida. He's also a registered voter there.
The next step in this case is a court hearing on August 8. A grand jury will decide what to do with the case. Mary Ann Mullinex's lawyer believes her case will go to trial.
