Shoplifter in Wood River halted by stop sticks in pursuit

WOOD RIVER, Ill. (KSDK) - A man police say was wanted for shoplifting at a store in Wood River overnight is in police custody after a short pursuit.

The unidentified man is alleged to have stolen merchandise from the Walmart store before fleeing in a car and heading north on the highway.

Additional officers were alerted to the man and set up stop sticks in the area of the I-255/Illinois Route 111 junction south of Bethalton where the car was disabled.

Police took the man into custody in a residential area just west of the highway on Wesley and Old Oak.

Charges are pending.
