BALDWIN COUNTY, Ala. (WKRG/CNN) - You never know what's going to wash up on the beach, but what came ashore in Alabama was enough to get police involved.
Officers say beachgoers found a kilo of cocaine on a Baldwin County beach. The drugs were wrapped in plastic, tightly bound, just sticking out of the sand.
"Two couples out walking on the beach down by the Saltwater Pavilion and they walked up on what they suspected to be a kilo of cocaine and it turned out to be that's what it was," said Sgt. Jason Woodruff.
Police say another kilo of cocaine was found earlier this week on a beach a little farther west.
Officers believe the drugs likely belong to a South American drug ring, but say it's nearly impossible to find out exactly where it came from.
