EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. (KSDK) - East St. Louis police are investigating a homicide at a local beauty supply store.
East St. Louis police say the owner of Royale Beauty Supply was found shot to death near the door of the store around 1 p.m. Thursday.
The victim's business partner, Ali Dahaba, was inside the store during the shooting. He says he heard the shots, peeked out, that is when the suspect started shooting at him.
Dahaba says he saved himself, yelled, and when he got outside he saw his friend lying on the ground. He says the suspects were leaving the scene in blue hoodies and masks. He has no idea who the suspects are.
The victim, 53-year-old Abdul Aziz Al Hakim, was one of Dahaba's best friends for over 30 years and have worked together for many years. They are both immigrnts from Yemen. He says they had been robbed at gunpoint in the past, and tried to move out of the neighborhood.
Everyone who NewsChannel 5's Talia Kaplan spoke with at the scene says this is a big loss for the community.
Police continue to investigate. They have not determined a motive yet but, Dahaba believes it was an attempted robbery.
Hakim is survived by his wife and eight children.
