Rolla, MO (KSDK) -  A forty year prison sentence was the punishment handed to a Southwest City man who pleaded guilty last month to charges connected to a gun battle with law enforcement officers in south central Missouri in 2011.

32 year old Cody Wilcoxson was given concurrent thirty year prison terms for assaulting police officers and sheriff's deputies in a running gun battle following Wilcoxson's invasion of the Fort Leonard Wood military base and later the Missouri University of Science and Technology in Rolla.

Police chased Wilcoxson after he drove through a secured entry gate at Fort Wood, then fled and abandoned a car at the Missouri college campus before breaking into a home, stealing a car, and re-engaging in a shoot out with authorities.

Along with the thirty year terms on the assaults, Wilcoxson was given a consecutive ten year term for burglarizing the home where he stole the car he used to elude police.
