Ferguson, Mo (KSDK) -- The City of Ferguson community center will move forward and a church and school will be transformed.
Ferguson voters approved a 35-cent property tax levy increase on August 7 to provide the funding to renovate Blessed Teresa of Calcutta Church and school at 1050 Smith Avenue.
The city bought the property from the Archdiocese of St. Louis in June 2012 for $1.5-million.
The former school building will be converted to a community center featuring multi-purpose rooms, a senior center and a fitness center. the former church building will be converted to a performance arts auditorium.
The renovations will begin in the spring of 2013 and is expected to be finished by the spring of 2014.
Renovations are expected to cost $3.5-million.
