St. Louis (KSDK) - The St. Louis Public School District has named their Special Education Teacher of the Year.

Rhea Willis from Beaumont Career and Technical High School is the recipient of the 2012 Dorothy R. Moog Special Education Teacher of the Year Award.

The district says Willis, chair of the school's science department, is a third generation educator and broke down barriers by teaching children with disabilities together with children without disabilities.

She joined the district in 2003 and previously worked for the St. Louis County Special School District for eight years.

Willis was honored at a reception and presented with $500 from the St. Louis Public Schools Foundation. She was also presented with a trophy, plaque, and a $500 award for classroom supplies or professional development from the Parsons Blewett Memorial Fund.
