WASHINGTON PARK, Ill. (KSDK) - Police in Washington Park, Illinois are investigating after a suspicious incident near the playground of James Alexander Avant Elementary School.
Principal Kim Jones-Riley says around 12:15 p.m. Monday a staff member saw three males chasing each other on Forrest Street, a side street in front of House of Prayer Church.
Jones-Riley says she asked one of the males to leave immediately.
A school clerk called the Washington Park Police Department, and they advised to lock the doors until the situation was under control.
Jones-Riley says police came to the school within 15 minutes and completed a security check and walk through of the building.
She says some have reported a BB gun was seen on the playground, but police cannot confirm that information.
The playground of the school is locked after recess as a safety measure, and Jones-Riley says strategies and drills are ready to be implemented in an emergency.
