MEHLVILLE, Mo. (KSDK) - Mehlville is joining other school districts across the metropolitan area in adding extra police enforcement in the aftermath of the Newtown school shootings.

Beginning Monday, school resource officers will be a presence in Mehlville's elementary schools.

Officers are already visible at Washington and other middle schools, as well as the two high schools. Officials say the additional officers will provide oversight during peak times such as the beginning of the school day when lots of people are in and out of the buildings.

Other local school districts are also starting to increase their safety measures, including adding officers and adding cameras and door locks.
