ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KSDK) - A preschool teacher from Dewey International Studies Elementary School has been named preschool teacher of the year.
Linda Smith has been an educator with the school district since 2007.
Smith stood out from her peers for creating a classroom community that fosters learning in a fun and engaging environment by involving parents and empowering students to become leaders within the class. Linda also let her class pick the class rules, which consist of: be here at school and play; play with somebody nicely; show you know something; listen to the teacher; give hugs and high-fives; help each other and share.
As the 2012 Adelaide M. Schlafly Preschool Teacher of the Year, Linda Smith was honored with an awards reception at the Carondelet Historical Society and presented with a $1,000 award from the St. Louis Public School Foundation. In addition, she also received a trophy, a plaque and a $500 award for classroom supplies and/or professional development through the Parsons Blewett Memorial Fund.
