ST. CHARLES, Mo. (KSDK) - A St. Charles, Missouri elementary school has been named a State School of Character.

The Character Education Partnership has given the honor to Independence Elementary in the Francis Howell School District.

The school is one of 15 in Missouri to receive the designation.

Emily Allen, Principal of Independence Elementary, says character education has helped change the culture of the school, and the award shows hard work from the school community.

Only 45 schools nationwide receive the State School of Character award, one-third of which come from Missouri.
