ST. LOUIS (KSDK) - In a little more than 24 hours, the St. Louis Public Schools superintendent is expected to recommend that some schools close next year.

Dr. Kelvin Adams said that he will make several proposals at Wednesday night's meeting of the special administrative board.

NewsChannel 5 received emails and phone calls from people who fear that Cleveland Naval Junior ROTC Academy will be scheduled for closure.

The original Cleveland was closed a few years ago and the program was moved to the old Southwest High School building.

Dr. Adams has said for months that district leaders have been looking at enrollment, academic achievement and other factors at individual schools.

"We look at the transportation costs. We look at the ancillary costs to support those schools. If it's a high school we look at sports and those kinds of things," Adams said. "So we look at any number of indicators before we make any kind of recommendations around schools."

If Dr. Adams makes closure recommendations on Wednesday, he said there will be several town hall meetings to discuss the matter. The first one could be held on Saturday.

The special administrative board could vote at its March meeting.
