KIRKWOOD, Mo. (KSDK) -- Some students gave up their weekend to do school work and help a friend.
Michael Boehm was paralyzed in a swimming pool accident 18 months ago. He's been recovering and is back on his feet, but there is still work to be done.
His family would like to send him to a special program in Atlanta, but it's not covered by insurance.
Students at the Kirkwood Kumon Center stepped in to help.
"We are just so touched by how generous the community has been," said Mary Boehm, Michael's mother. "All these children that have offered to spend extra time doing Kumon and to go out and find sponsors to raise money. It's just wonderful."
The sponsors pledged a certain amount for each worksheet the students finish.
