BELLEVILLE, Ill. (KSDK) - You can add Belleville District 118 to the list of local districts laying off staff due to the state's budget shortfall.
Six teachers and 20 staff members will lose their jobs at the end of the school year. The state of Illinois owes the district nearly $2 million.
This is the third local school district to announce layoffs this week due to a lack of state funding.
In Belleville's District 201, the layoffs add up to the equivalent of about four full-time teachers. A number of retiring teachers are also not being replaced.
Monday night Collinsville board members voted to cut 19 teachers and nine support staffers.
