FENTON, Mo. (KSDK) - A young girl has lost her battle with cancer.

Eight-year-old Kyra Root passed away Tuesday afternoon after battling osteosarcoma, an aggressive bone cancer.

Her family posted on the Prayers for Kyra Facebook page that she died peacefully, surrounded by family and friends.

Kyra was diagnosed in June 2011 and underwent major surgery and multiple rounds of chemotherapy.

NewsChannel 5 first introduced you to Kyra and her family in March 2012. The Roots' home had mold issues and were displaced until the Bazow family of Fenton stepped in to help.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation granted Kyra's wish to go to Disney World last year.

We met up with Kyra again in October, and she had big plans, with 95 things to accomplish on her bucket list, including swimming in Jell-O and skydiving. She said her favorite thing she had done so far was riding the Tower of Terror.

She also had a message for everyone who helped her achieve her goals, "Thank you. I'd like to give a hug and kiss to all of you. Thank you all of you for helping me, and helping me feel better."

Her family has set up a website for donations to help with medical bills and funeral expenses. If you would like to donate, visit the Help Kyra GoFundMe page.
