CHICAGO (AP) - About 45,000 runners are expected for Sunday's Chicago Marathon and the physician leading the marathon's medical team has some advice for a healthy race.

Dr. George Chiampas of Northwestern Medicine says running 26.2 miles can take a toll on even the most prepared marathoner.

He suggests eating a high protein breakfast with a good balance of carbohydrates and fat about two hours before the race. Avoiding sugary foods and alcohol in the days before the race is also a good idea.

The forecast is for temperatures in the mid-60s. Chiampas says runners should dress in layers so they can shed clothing to stay cool.

Chiampas also advises wearing clothes and shoes you've worn on long runs before. Don't experiment on race day with new foods or drinks.
