The letter sent home to parents is below:
To Clayton High School Parents -
It is always my intent to keep you informed about events and activities at Clayton High School. On-going, open communication is one of the hallmarks of our community. That is why I'm writing. I want to make you aware of a situation we're dealing with today.
This afternoon, near the end of the school day, a student found a threatening message written on the wall of the men's room in the world language hallway. The message was a threat of violence targeting blacks and Jews.
While we have absolutely no evidence to indicate this is anything other than graffiti, we are taking the matter very seriously and are responding appropriately. The safety and security of every person in our building is our primary concern. We will do everything we know to do in order to ensure we meet this responsibility.
Since learning of the message, we have implemented our crisis plan and have been in constant contact with the Clayton Police, who are actively investigating the threat. We will be taking extra precautions on Friday and the Clayton police will be providing a significant presence in the building before, during and after school tomorrow. and controlling access to CHS.
All students will be required to have their ID badges to access the school and the Center of Clayton will be closed to students throughout the day. Every exterior entrance to our building is electronically monitored and will be locked at all times. Staff and police will be in the hallways and classrooms throughout the day, being aware of all activities within the school.
I certainly understand the anxiety this may cause for you and your child. I want to assure you that we are working to continue to provide a safe school. While we take all threats seriously, I am confident that we, and the Clayton police, have taken the steps necessary to ensure our safety. I know that CHS will be a safe place for all who come to school tomorrow.
If you or your children have any information related to this situation, please feel free to email me or call the Clayton Police Department at 314-645-3000.
As always, I will work to keep you informed of any new developments.
