KSDK -- The former director of Wade Funeral Home pleaded guilty to embezzling more than $200,000 before she was fired last year.
44-year-old Debora Kellom of Florissant was hired by Wade in the mid-1990s as a funeral director, and later became director of operations for Wade and was in charge of the day-to-day operations of Wade until her termination in August 2008.
Using her position as director of operations and a false claim of ownership in the company, between 2004 and her termination in 2008, Kellom embezzled more than $200,000 from Wade by diverting cash payments to herself, using Wade bank accounts to pay for personal expenses, and opening a credit card account for personal purchases.
One of the bank accounts maintained by Wade was at Pulaski Bank. Kellom often withdrew cash from the account for her personal use. She was able to partially conceal her activities by depositing some Wade client checks into the Pulaski account which would have otherwise been deposited into other bank accounts.
She now faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and/or fines up to $250,000, when she is sentenced on July 24, 2009.
