JEFFERSON CITY (AP) -- U.S. Rep. Roy Blunt has received the endorsement of the National Republican Senatorial Committee in his bid to succeed Sen. Kit Bond.
Blunt is the only declared Republican candidate for the 2010 race.
But former Treasurer Sarah Steelman and state Sen. Chuck Purgason also have said they are considering the Senate race.
If a competitive primary is expected, political party committees often avoid picking sides in a primary. Blunt says his race is just the second open-seat endorsement made by the Republican Senatorial Committee for the 2010 elections.
The only Democratic candidate in the race is Secretary of State Robin Carnahan.
