Visionary behind Citygarden wins St. Louis Award

KSDK -- The man whose interest in sculpture as public art and provided necessary leadership in the creation of the downtown Citygarden was honored Thursday with the prestigious St. Louis Award.

M. Peter Fischer, Chairman of the Board for the Gateway Foundation, is the 82nd person to win the award.  He joins other notable St. Louisans to win the award: former Senator Joe Danforth, Joe Edwards, Dr. Robert Archibald and Jack Taylor.

Established in 1931 by the late David P. Wohl, the St. Louis Award is given to "the resident of metropolitan St. Louis who, during the preceding year, has contributed the most outstanding service for its development ... or (who) shall have performed such service as to bring greatest honor to the community."
